With a degree in engineering and a number of years experience working in the telecommunications and IT security sectors, applying for a Traineeship with a law firm was quite a departure from what I had done previously, and I wasn’t sure how my more scenic route to a legal career would be perceived. William Fry however were interested in my background from the very beginning and rather than only briefly discussing it during the interview process they were instead responsive to it.

I was delighted to be offered the opportunity to do my training in William Fry and started in May 2010 prior to Blackhall. My first rotation was in Litigation and it was a fantastic experience. As a first foray into the legal world it was great to be down in the courts, meeting with barristers and clients and to be involved in cases which you would then read about in the papers the next day. In a large corporate firm, one of the benefits is the opportunity to work on major transactions and to gain experience in a wide array of disciplines and I’m looking forward to my future rotations in this regard. Although it’s fair to say it was also great to return to a student life last September when I went down to Blackhall!

The people in William Fry have been extremely friendly and helpful since I began and while it is a busy Firm with pressing deadlines, people always take the time to help you in doing your job. It’s not all work though and there are many social and sporting events on throughout the year which really helps you get to know the people working here.
