Many multi-national companies, foreign companies looking to open an office in Ireland and indeed Irish companies will at some stage want to hire a person who is not a national of any of the EEA group of nations.
Irish regulation of this area is based on legislation but is also subject to a discretion granted to government ministers. Employers wishing to hire a non-EEA national will have to consider both visa requirements to enter Ireland and employment permit requirements to work in Ireland.
An applicant and his or her employer will have to consider (i) the different visa requirements that apply depending on the applicant’s nationality and (ii) the different types of employment permits, including:
- Green Card
- Work Permit
- Intra-Group Transfer
- Work Permit for Spouses and Dependants of Employment Permit Holders
- Van der Elst visa
- Graduate Scheme
In some cases, the applicant and employer will be subject to short deadlines so as to meet work demand.
William Fry has practical knowledge and experience in this area. We can:
- Guide employers and prospective employees so that they choose the best route to securing the relevant visa and employment permit
- Advise on the relevant timelines and the possibility of expediting an application
